Tokyo Pet Guide
I’m really happy to share a brand-new video with you where I explore seven creative and approachable ways to paint watercolor tulips. Whether you’re just starting out or want to refresh your floral painting style, these simple tulip techniques will fill your sketchbook with bright, spring-inspired energy.
When I filmed this lesson, tulips were blooming all across Dallas, Texas. Seeing all those rich colors and unique petal shapes inspired me to put together this watercolor tulip tutorial. Since tulips come in so many varieties, it felt like the perfect subject to demonstrate different brush approaches and watercolor effects. No matter what materials you have at home, you’ll be able to follow along and find a method that suits your style.
The Traditional Tulip
We begin with a classic tulip shape—simple, elegant, and perfect for warming up your hand. Think of a soft teardrop form filled with shades like coral, magenta, or soft pink.
Loose, Expressive Tulips
Next, we’ll explore a more relaxed painting style. Here, we let the paint flow freely, blending warm tones such as red, pink, and orange to create lively, organic tulips full of movement.
Layered Petal Technique
This approach focuses on building translucent washes step by step. By layering color gradually and lifting highlights, we can achieve depth, softness, and a more dimensional floral look.
Wet-on-Wet Tulips
In this section, we dive into the wet-on-wet method, where pigments merge directly on damp paper. The result is soft edges, natural blends, and dreamy transitions that make your tulips feel light and fluid.
Why Paint Tulips?
Tulips represent freshness, growth, and joy. Painting them is not only relaxing but also a great way to practice essential watercolor skills like blending, layering, and controlling water flow. This tutorial helps you strengthen your technique while enjoying the beauty of floral subjects.

The Vital Ecological Contribution of Rhinos
While many recognize that poaching is a barbaric practice pushing rhinoceros populations toward the brink of collapse, some may wonder why there is such an intense focus on this specific animal. Beyond being iconic symbols of wilderness and major draws for global tourism, rhinos hold a critical position in the natural world. They are classified as a "keystone species," meaning their presence and activities have a disproportionately large impact on the health and diversity of the entire ecosystem.
