Remember the futuristic cities from Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell—with towering neon-lit skyscrapers and flying cars? That’s how we once envisioned technologically advanced urban landscapes, where robots coexist and serve alongside humans. Yet, even as AI and automation advance at breakneck speed, our vision for future cities has shifted toward a more human-centric and nature-integrated paradigm than ever before.
As the impacts of climate change and global warming become increasingly pronounced, designers and urban planners are prioritizing the integration of natural environments into urban spaces, fostering greater sustainability in the process. Below are five awe-inspiring "cities of the future" that have captured our attention with their innovative, eco-conscious designs.

1. Telosa – United States

Derived from the Greek word "telos," meaning "purpose," Telosa is a super-city designed with an ambitious mission: to set a global benchmark for urban living by leveraging smart city technology for future generations.
Led by American billionaire Marc Lore, this 150,000-acre project—comparable in size to Chicago—aims to build a fully renewable energy-powered metropolis from the ground up in the American Southwest. Environmental sustainability is central to the community’s design, with universal access to green spaces and clean water for all residents.
Petrol-powered cars will be a thing of the past here: the city will rely on self-driving electric vehicles and an efficient transportation system that ensures any destination is reachable within 15 minutes.
Though still in the planning phase, Telosa aims to house 5 million people over the next 40 years, offering universal education and healthcare to its diverse, inclusive community.

2. Future Science and Technology City – China

If Telosa feels too theoretical and distant, construction of this future city in China is already underway, with completion expected by the end of this year. Located in eastern Chengdu—a dynamic metropolis in southwest China—this new settlement, roughly the size of Manhattan Island, is designed to serve as a hub for the city’s high-tech industry.
Rather than treating the area as a blank slate, the project team drew inspiration from local Lin Pan villages—rural communities that practice small-scale farming using traditional irrigation systems. The new city is divided into six clusters, each engineered to harmonize with the natural landscape and the region’s water systems.

3. The Line – Saudi Arabia

If the two future cities above sound like conventional urban areas with fewer cars and more greenery, The Line is unlike anything you’ve ever imagined.
Commissioned by the Saudi government, this project is part of the Crown Prince’s initiative to develop a special economic zone in the country’s southwestern region. As its name suggests, The Line is a linear, vertical city stretching 170 kilometers long, 200 meters wide, and 500 meters tall.
In an oil-rich, predominantly desert nation, The Line stands out for its goal of creating a fully renewable energy-powered city with unobstructed access to nature. To achieve carbon neutrality, carbon-intensive infrastructure like roads and cars are entirely eliminated. Instead, residents will commute on foot or via a high-speed rail system that enables end-to-end travel in just 20 minutes.

4. Biodivercity – Malaysia

Dreaming of relocating to a tropical paradise in the future? These three artificial islands off the coast of Penang might be your ideal destination.
As part of the Penang 2030 vision, the Malaysian government is constructing three lily pad-shaped green islands that will house up to 18,000 people while preserving local biodiversity.
Powered entirely by renewable energy, the islands will be car-free and connected by pedestrian walkways, bike lanes, and autonomous public transit networks. All buildings will also be constructed using bamboo and Malaysian timber, emphasizing eco-friendly materials.

5. Floating City – Maldives

Famous for its breathtaking natural beauty and luxury resorts, the Maldives is a top travel destination for beach lovers in South Asia.
Yet, despite its stunning scenery, the nation faces an existential crisis. Composed of low-lying islands, the Maldives is extremely vulnerable to rising sea levels and extreme weather events driven by climate change. Reports indicate that approximately 80% of the country’s islands could be submerged by 2050.
To address this threat, the Maldivian government has partnered with a Dutch company to develop a floating city—a network of artificial islands built on platforms that can rise and fall with changing water levels. These man-made islands will be connected by underwater tunnels and walkways.

The Architectural Masterpiece of the Walt Disney Concert Hall

The Architectural Masterpiece of the Walt Disney Concert Hall

Located at South Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles, this cultural landmark serves as a primary venue for the city's music center. Designed by the architect Frank Gehry and opened in the autumn of 2003, the hall accommodates over two thousand guests. It functions as the permanent home for the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Master Chorale. The design represents a bold synthesis of architectural philosophies, blending the vineyard-style seating configuration famously utilized by the Berlin Philharmonic with the acoustic intimacy of classical European shoebox designs. Lillian Disney initiated the project in the late eighties with a massive donation, intending the venue as a gift to the city and a tribute to the legacy of the arts. Both the aesthetic vision and the acoustic engineering have earned widespread acclaim, standing in stark contrast to the performance halls that preceded it.
